Regional mobile
devices marketer, Samsung Electronics East Africa, has confirmed a partnership
with local mobile phone service operators geared at scaling up Kenya’s Internet
mobile penetration.
In the new
partnership, Samsung Smart phones including the the fourth generation GALAXY S, the
GALAXY S4, will
now be launched in the local market backed by attractive data bundle offers
from the respective mobile operators.
Speaking in
Johannesburg, South Africa last night during the Africa leg of the Samsung
Galaxy S4 World Tour 2013, Samsung Electronics East Africa, Chief Operating
Officer, Robert Ngeru, disclosed that the new smart phone will be unveiled in
Kenya on 2nd March just days after the global launch set for this
Saturday.
With mobile Internet
data accounting for more than 99% of the total national Internet subscriptions
according to the Communications Commission of Kenya, the new Samsung offers
will positively shore up Kenya’s overall Internet subscription rates. Last
year, Kenya’s Internet subscription registered an 11.6% growth to close at about
6.2million subscriptions of the 30.7million total number of mobile subscribers.
Innovatively and
aligned to the global launch strategy by Samsung Electronics, Kenyans, will
also enjoy a two-year free Accidental Damage
from Handling (ADH) warranty to cover screen and liquid damages to the GALAXY
S4 at no extra charge, a world first from a device manufacturer level. This, insurance cover
will indemnify Galaxy S4 customers from the risk of accidental screen breakage
and hardware damage from water.
“At Samsung, we have
held successful talks with the regional operators who have accepted to provide
generous data bundles for customers purchasing the Galaxy S4 as part of a joint
effort to promote mobile internet promotion,” Ngeru said.
And added: “our market
research recently confirmed that marketing such powerful smart mobile devices
and failing to provide data bundles was akin to selling a new car without fuel
or tyres.”
In a synchronized
launch strategy; the Galaxy S4 consumer sales will kick off at 10am on Saturday
April 27th in Korea, United States, Britain and South Africa among
other key global markets.
As part of the
collaboration partnership between Samsung and the local operators, Ngeru
further disclosed that both Airtel and Safaricom had commenced a pre-order
service ahead of the local launch. Though a common
feature in the global arena, Kenyan operators will be testing the waters on the
viability of picking pre launch orders for the first time with the Galaxy S4
Smart Phone.
Already both operators
have lined up attractive offers backed by generous data bundles for the early
bird customers acquiring the Galaxy S4 to be marketed under the tagline your;
Life Companion.
With Airtel Kenya,
subscribers’ making an early bid for the Galaxy S4 will enjoy attractive offers
starting from Kshs 52,999 for smartphone featuring 21GB free data bundle.
Safaricom subscribers will enjoy a similar offer priced at Kshs 57,999 and
backed by a 4.5GB data bundle spread over three months.
Currently enjoying rave reviews
globally, the Samsung GALAXY S4 was developed to redefine the
way we live and to maximise our fulfilment of life. This sleek and innovative
