Why the Nexus 5 is flying off the shelves

The first red Nexus 5 device is now available on Google Play™. Nexus 5 is the first Google phone to be offered in three colors: red, white and black. Launched last October in partnership by LG and Google, Nexus 5 received praise as a stylish, high-performance Google phone. Nexus 5 is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon™ 800 processor, a stunning 5-inch Full HD IPS display and runs Android 4.4, KitKat, the latest version of the Android OS.

Google was also ready this time with product. The initial wave of interest saw all variants of the handset (black or white, 16GB or 32GB) sell out, but stock quickly returned and there were few of the availability issues which plagued the release of the Nexus 4. Google was ready and, following overwhelmingly positive reviews, the Nexus 5 has become a major milestone.

Yes, with a fast Snapdragon 800 processor, a sharp 1080p touch screen, and a competent battery, there's a lot to like about the Nexus 5 even if you never get past the main menu. But it's really the Android 4.4 Kitakat operating system that you should explore. Though not long on flashy new features, KitKat brings an ever deeper integration with Google's expanding array of services and a promise to end the age-old scourge of Android fragmentation.

“The Nexus line has always been about doing things differently and consumers who share this philosophy have been our most loyal fans,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “We’re carrying this thinking over to the red Nexus 5, which we think will catch the eye of consumers who want to make an even bolder statement.”

The red Nexus 5 is now available on Google Play™ in the United States, Canada, U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, Hong Kong, India, Japan and Korea with wider availability across Europe by the end of the month. Customers will also be able to purchase a red Nexus 5 in retail stores in select markets.

Since the Google and LG’s Nexus 5 went on sale. Neither company has yet to release exact sales figures for the handset, but it is arguably the most important Android handset ever made.

Why? Because for the first time Google launched a handset not to be an alsoran among the latest premium smartphones; but eclipse competition. Not only is the Nexus 5 faster than the Samsung Galaxy S4, Sony Xperia Z and HTC One and, but it is also nearly half the price while promising immediate updates to the latest versions of Android.

While Gorilla Glass has long claimed to protect handsets in lab tests, it seems to be made of cellophane in real world use. But Gorilla Glass 3 proves third time is a charm. Despite several drops, there is no single scratch on the handset.

The sides of the Nexus 5 also deserve praise. Often a weak spot on phones, notably the iPhone 5 and 5S, the black edition of the Nexus 5 wraps its rubberised back around the edges for further protection while the porcelain power and volume buttons are incredibly hard-wearing.
